Matcha lattes, much like the Flat White in the early 2010s, has gone from a fringe option only available in ‘hipster’ cafes in the West End to one of the top choices in virtually all coffee shops in the Southside.
With the boom in both coffee shops selling matcha lattes, and customers looking for the most aesthetic matcha lattes, the disparity between a ‘good’ and a ‘bad’ matcha is only growing – but I am determined to find the best one available (of course, in Glasgow’s southside).
1. Neka Southside
If you have followed this page for a while, you’ll know how highly I (and over 60 reviewers) rate Neka Southside.
Its sleek, tiktok worthy interior vibes just scream that they make a banging matcha, and of course, they do, and not just the classic matcha latte, they have a whole menu dedicated to everyone’s favourite green drink, including an iced mango matcha perfect for summer.
That’s key to Neka’s success – not only do they absolutely smash the basics, they go above and beyond when you’re looking for that extra special something.
2. Verse
Much like Neka, this one is slightly off the beaten track, making it the perfect hidden gem. Located in a tiny spot on Deanston Drive, Verse offers dream like matcha lattes, of course served in Insta worthy glass mugs with a silky frothy top.
Just like Neka, they offer a range of matcha options, our favourite? The iced blueberry matcha. Every. Single. Time.

3. Frankie Coffee
Another coffee shop just tucked off Kilmarnock Road, Frankie Coffee has a major USP – all of their coffees are vegan, using plant-based milk.
Now, I love an oat chai or a coconut hot chocolate (I know it sounds strange – but give it a shot), but 90% of the time I’m sticking with dairy milk. Frankie’s matchas have me questioning that though – they are delicious and the milk perfectly blends with the earthiness of the matcha! Bonus points for being Aussie-style – just makes automatically makes you cool.
4. Godshot Studio
Godshot just oozes the vibes of a good, aesthetic matcha – it may lose out to the (in my opinion) vibier options in the list, but Christ does it do what it does well.
Looking to feel a slice of luxury? Head over the Shawlands Cross because Godshot serve it up in exquisite glasses, and the bonus of some outdoor seating and a beautiful interior keeps it as a staple in the Shawlands coffee rotation.
5. Showa Coffee House
Most of the options on this list follow the tried and tested Australian coffee shop vibe, Showa switches that up taking us on a trip to Japan, so of course their matcha is going to be incredible.
I love the design of the cafe, its tiny space makes for an incredibly cosy sit-in experience and the little nibbles they offer are delightful as well – the story of them starting out in Shetland and moving all the way down to Shawlands to launch their new cafe is also simply amazing.
